This article reviews the Barriers section. It assesses 24 language and learning barriers that may be preventing a student of any age from making progress (e.g., prompt dependency, non-compliance, behavior problems, impaired mands, demand weakens motivation, sensory defensiveness).

Overview - Access Level
- Click the assessment date link on the main VB-MAPP page. The assessment opens.
NOTE: click the Information icon at the top of the assessment > Chapter 6 to access the official VB-MAPP guide for Barriers.

Barriers is the first section on the right side of the screen. Click the Begin button to begin scoring the section or the Resume button to continue scoring an assessment in progress.
- There are 24 Barrier measurements. Barrier measurements are based on the reduction of undesirable behaviors. The barriers listed may not apply to each child and new barriers may emerge for the child over time.

- Each measurement shows the scores entered for the student. Assessments are numbered in the grid (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc.) and are based on the order they were entered on the main VB-MAPP table.
For example, the score for the measurement (Negative Behaviors) for the 2nd assessment is 2.
The score is then calculated into the total barriers score for the 2nd assessment that displays on the main table. When you open an assessment from the table it automatically opens that assessment.

Navigation - Scoring

- Point value scoring options for each measurement are: 0 points > 4 points.
Score the assessment according to the appropriate criteria for the client. - As measurements are scored, the score appears in the assessment grid next to the measurement.
Master Scoring Form
- Click the Scores button for the Barriers section or click the Calculator icon for each level.

- Information on the form: Assessment number, Date entered, current score, age of client (on testing date), color coding option, Assessor.
NOTE: Use the color coding option to assign a specific color to the assessment score.
- The scoring grid automatically fills in as the assessment is scored.
